For the first time, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat publicly acknowledged that the Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yaacob, executive council member Datuk Husam Musa and Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, are eligible to become his successor.
The 77-year-old Nik Aziz has served as the Kelantan MB ever since PAS came into power in 1990. The PAS Kelantan regime and his successor have caused various speculations after he was admitted into hospital few years ago because of heart attack.
Before this, candidates with highest voices are party vice president Datuk Husam Musa and Panchor assemblyman Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah. The former is party strategist, while the latter is popular among the grassroots even though he is low-profile in the party.
However, Nik Aziz remained tight-lipped of his most preferred successor. He pointed out that the trio has followed him many years for learning and experience. From his words, he has enough confidence and trust on them.
“If they do not fit the qualification, who will be more suitable then?”
In any case, it is generally believed that Nik Aziz would not pass his power to his successor by this term.
